SimPLE - Simulating Psoriasis Landscape Evolution

Background

Psoriasis, psoriatic arthritis and ankylosing spondylitis are auto-immune diseases defined by increasing patient volumes driven by epidemiological trends, growing patient expectations and a progressive uptake of new therapies. The resulting challenge for payers and clinicians is to sustain access to these innovative therapies for a growing number of patients.

Decisions and actions

SimPLE is a development initiative for hospital centers designed by Bip, thanks to the sponsorship of Novartis, and is currently active in 17 Dermatology and Rheumatology clinics throughout Italian Hospitals.

The project provides support to the participating centers on organizing outpatient activities, through a web-based simulator design to elaborate scenarios of change in patient pathways and treatment mix choices and to simulate the deriving impacts in terms of burden for the organization and economics.

The solution, based on real time data collection, allows to improve the overall outpatient activity, providing robust performance data and evidence for clinicians to interact within the Dermatology and Rheumatology wards teams, with other corporate departments and with hospital management.

Expected results

SimPLE is a powerful economic and organizational support tool, aiming to reinforce physicians in their role as active players in managing Hospitals’ resources based on timely available and reliable data on patients pathways and treatment mix.
