The evolution of Global Procurement: from Vertical Buyer to Business Partner


In recent years, our client has undertaken a Procurement Transformation process to ensure its Global Procurement structure is aligned with the market's continuous evolution.

One of its sites aimed to implement a Buyer Workload Management System in order to:

  • improve the execution of purchasing activities by efficiently dispatching and balancing them between all Purchase Units

  • increase buyers' know-how and further promote their professional development and internal mobility

  • standardise operating procedures among the various Purchase Units

  • increase internal customers' level of satisfaction (Business Lines)

Decisions and actions

The client began the implementation project in the second half of 2018 and requested our support in designing the model and implementing it to enable advanced management methods for the different phases of the process.

The implementation initially involved just Italy, before being extended to all Global Procurement.


Thanks to our support, the client achieved the strategic goals behind the project within the desired time frame.

The final goal is to migrate the traditional figure of the vertical buyer in this category towards the role of Business Partner, more oriented towards fully understanding the customer's needs and quickly aligning with the market offer.
